Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. History
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is a predominately Black fraternity founded January 5th, 1911 at the campus of Indiana University. The five objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi are: to unite college men of culture, patriotism, and honor in a bond of fraternity; to encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor (which is also the fraternity's official motto); to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral welfare of members; to assist the aims and purposes of colleges and universities; and to inspire service in the public interest.
Psi Chapter History
The Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, inc. was chartered at the University of Minnesota on April 19th, 1924. It was the 23rd chapter chartered of over 400+ undergraduate chapters worldwide, and boasts a Single letter designation, which only assigned to the first 24 chartered chapters. The chapter is nicknamed "Progressive Psi," largely due to the amount of accolades accumulated over the chapter's rich history (most recently including, but not limited to: North Central Province Undergraduate Chapter of the Year [2006, 2007, 2008, 2010], and International Undergraduate Chapter of the Year in 2007).
